Councillor David McElroy
Cllr David McElroy has lived in Reading for over five years. In his spare time, he enjoys cinema, cycling and spending time with his family.
He has been a Redlands Ward councillor since 2021.
He says, “I am proud to represent Redlands Ward. I have been working to tackle noise and antisocial behaviour in the ward. I will keep working hard and raising the issues that matter to Redlands Ward.”
Dave was our parliamentary candidate for the new Reading Central constituency in 2024.
Speaking before the general election he said, “In June, the choice of a fairer, greener town will be on the ballot paper for every voter in Reading Central.
“Living standards and public services are in desperate shape. The Conservatives created this problem, and people have decided that they don’t want more of the same from Rishi and his gang. But the offer from Labour comes nowhere near meeting the challenge either.
“As a local Green MP, I promise to prioritise the housing crisis in Reading and to fight in Parliament to address congestion and pollution. I shall also be pushing for measures to cut NHS waiting lists and to clean up our toxic waterways.
“Looking internationally, I shall join with other Green MPs in calling for climate action and for a full ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages and the suspension of arms exports to Israel.
“Greens are now the official opposition on Reading Borough Council, with literally twice as many councillors in this town as the Conservatives. The contest in Reading Central will be a two-horse race between Greens and Labour.
“I am proud to offer the voters of Reading real hope and real change.”

Vote Green in Redlands
It is between Green and Labour in Redlands. Greens did so well at the council elections recently that we overtook the Conservatives becoming the second largest party on Reading’s Labour-run council (31 Labour councillors, 8 Green, 4 Conservative and 3 Lib Dem). Labour have a very large majority of councillors, one more Labour councillor won’t make any difference.
Vote Green at the council elections for hard work year-round and for a strong main opposition party that can hold the Labour-run council to account for their actions.
Redlands Ward achievements:
- Worked to improve road safety with improvements at Cemetery Junction, 20 mph across the ward and progress on crossings for Erleigh Road (by Eastern Avenue) and Upper Redlands Road
- Protected the Thames Side from Labour’s plan to build a destructive road there and stood up for Morgan Road playing fields
- Stood up for public services like Arthur Hill swimming pool, libraries and the children centres
Redlands Ward priorities
- Tackling rubbish problems – tackling fly-tipping, making sure people have the right bins and working for doorstep glass recycling
- Addressing antisocial behaviour – working to tackle noise and other antisocial behaviour in the ward
- Opposing overdevelopment – against Labour’s Thames Side road, protecting conservation areas and strong communities
