Since 2017 Reading Council has deposited almost £100 million in Qatar’s national banks.
Green campaigner for Redlands Ward Kate Nikulina says, “With many of us cheering on our teams in the upcoming football tournament, all eyes will be on Qatar, and sadly on its lamentable human rights record. Reading Labour should end their practice of investing in the nation of Qatar.
“It’s about acting in a way that sets an example and investing in a country that makes homosexuality illegal is just wrong. Labour should stop investing in Qatar. We need to celebrate our LGBT+ communities and show how proud we are. A Green-run Council would be very different to a Labour one.”
