Cllr Brenda McGonigle has been campaigning for a public swimming pool in east Reading.
It has been four years since Arthur Hill pool was closed with no local alternative. Sadly, the council now has planning permission to turn it into flats. A planning application has also gone in from the council for a new pool at Palmer Park.
Green lobbying has reduced the amount of green space that will be lost to car parking. Cllr Rob White has written a blog post here with more information.
Cllr Brenda McGonigle said: "East Reading residents deserve a public swimming pool. As we go to press there is no public pool, no leisure contract and no approved plans. We will keep working for a pool for East Reading."
UPDATE: It looked like one of the large limes on the Palmer Park Avenue side of the park was going to be removed, but thanks to residents raising it and Greens lobbying on this the plans will be amended.
