Council ‘outsources’ leisure and swimming

6 March 2020

Palmer Park Stadium, yesterday

Council draft plans showed Palmer Park car parking massively expanded onto green space. Questions remain over how much of Palmer Park will be lost to new pool car parking…

Cllr Brenda McGonigle said, “We think this Labour Council should run its leisure provision properly, not outsource it. We need a community pool in East Reading, and in the meantime they should re-open Arthur Hill baths.”

Cllr Rob White said, “It seems astonishing that Arthur Hill pool closed in 2016 with promises that a new pool would open first, and now we have more promises that a private provider will open a pool in East Reading in 2022 or 2023. Massive questions remain unanswered about how much of Palmer Park will be lost to a new swimming pool car park.”
