Reading Council has thankfully paused plans to auction off the Arch at Cemetery Junction. A community group, Junction Arch Heritage & Arts (JAHA), have launched a bid with the National Lottery Heritage Fund to acquire the Arch in order to turn it into a Heritage and Arts Hub for community use.
Green Campaigner David McElroy said: “The prominent Arch symbolises the Cemetery Junction area, so to make it the place people meet seems a natural solution, to not only restore and maintain it, but also to get people using the fantastic green space behind it.”
