Unfortunately, library users in Reading can expect to see a number of cuts to the service starting this month and into October, including a reduction in opening hours. Greens have saved Saturday morning at Palmer Park and will keep working to restore library hours.
As of Monday 17th September, Whitley Library, which is now part of the new South Reading Community Hub in Northumberland Avenue, will be closed on Fridays. All other opening times at this location remain unchanged.
In October, opening times will also be slashed at five other library branches. From Monday 15th October 2018:
All other opening times at these locations remain unchanged. For full opening times, visit: www.reading.gov.uk/librarybranches
David McElroy, Green campaigner for Redlands, commented that: "We're glad that, following our campiagning, Palmer Park library will maintain its Saturday morning hours, but overall disappointed by the cuts to the library service. The Green party will however keep working to prevent further cuts to libraries and build the hours back up. Why not get involved?"
To lessen the impact of the reduced opening hours on users, a book drop facility will be installed outside Caversham, Tilehurst, Battle and Palmer Park libraries so that books can be returned outside of opening hours. Central Library already has this facility.
As Government policies are adversely affecting more and more of us, there has never been a better time to get involved with the work of the Green Party.
Any help you can give us, from delivering newsletters to making a donation, will make a real difference to getting more Greens elected in your area, so together we can fulfil our Green vision for a healthier, fairer, and affordable future for everyone.
