Greens oppose cuts to homelessness support services

Rough sleeping

Reading Council has cut funding for homelessness support services by 17%. Green councillor Rob White spoke out and voted against this cut.

Green Party councillor Rob White said: “rough sleeping has doubled nationally since 2010 and it has increased in Reading. Walking through the town centre, I regularly see at least 5 people who are begging or sleeping in doorways. I do not support this reduction in funding.”

Talking about the national picture, Cllr White continued: “it is cruel Tory policies which have led to the rise in need and the reduction in funding; policies like the continued reduction in social housing, capping benefits and little help for private renters. Everyone should have a decent home.”
