Green Councillor Rob White has signed the Reading City of Sanctuary Pledge on behalf of Reading & Wokingham Green Party

7 October 2016

City of Sanctuary is a movement looking to work toward making towns and cities across the UK more welcoming to refugees and asylum seekers. They seek to do this by developing a network of cities of sanctuary across the UK; this, they hope, will demonstrate the desire of U.K. citizens for a fairer and more just treatment of refugees and asylum seekers.

Rob White, Green group leader said:  “Let’s Make Reading a place of sanctuary for Refugees. The Green Party strongly believes that we have a duty to do more to help refugees, it is important that we work towards ensuring the Reading is a welcoming and safe place for all refugees and asylum seekers.”

Kate Butler, Reading City of Sanctuary coordinator said: “'we at Reading City of Sanctuary are thrilled to have the support of the Green Party. We are hoping to work with all political parties across Reading to combat segregation and xenophobia.”
